I invented the FountainOne in my Michigan basement.
My name is Kurt Best, and I'm the inventor of the FountainOne — a drinking fountain designed to connect directly to a standard size garden hose. With utility and design patents pending and the Backyard Drinking Fountain Co. name trademarked, I've turned a simple idea into a product I'm proud to put my name behind.
We grew up drinking from the hose.
If you grew up before bottled water followed us everywhere, you probably remember it too. Riding bikes around the neighborhood until dark. Then turning on the hose and waiting for the water to run cold. On a hot summer day, nothing tasted better.
Then, almost overnight, it disappeared. We learned what can leach out of a garden hose baking in the summer sun, and families stopped letting their kids drink from it. A simple backyard tradition quietly faded away.
Nearly 20 years ago, I went looking for an outdoor drinking fountain built for homeowners — something simple, no plumber, no permanent plumbing. I couldn't find one, but the idea stuck with me.
About three years ago, I finally decided to do something about it. So I built it myself.
Assembled by hand. Every one of them.
The FountainOne started as a prototype on my workbench. Today, the individual components are manufactured for us, and I assemble every fountain myself, right here in the same basement where it was invented.
From the stainless steel surround to the replaceable filter and SmartDrain™ System, I personally put each fountain together, inspect it, and pack it for shipping.
When you order a FountainOne, it comes from my hands to your backyard. And if things go according to plan, someday my kids might even get their basement back.
This is a family business.
I may have invented the FountainOne, but I haven't done all of this alone. My fiancée Juliana has been helping since the beginning, and my mom Patricia has been there to cheer us on.
We even built our own trade show booth in the garage — plywood, paint, and a lot of late nights.
